The fill decides how long the bed lasts

Almost every dog bed complaint traces back to one of two decisions: the fill, or the cover. Get those right and the shape is mostly a matter of taste.

Loose polyester fill feels generous when it arrives and flattens into a pancake within months under a heavy dog. A solid memory foam core cannot migrate, so it keeps supporting the joints it was bought to support. For large or older dogs it is the only honest specification.

The cover decides whether it survives a business

In a home, a cover gets washed occasionally. In a kennel or clinic it goes through commercial laundering constantly. If the cover is not removable and not specified for that, the bed is consumable rather than durable, whatever the fill is.

Match the shape to the room, not the photo

Donut cuddlers sell best at retail because they photograph beautifully. Crate mats fit runs and wash in volume. Elevated cots dry in minutes and keep dogs off cold concrete. Bolsters look like furniture. They are genuinely different products for different rooms.

Waterproof is a specification, not a marketing word

A sealed waterproof shell stops water reaching the fill at all, which is where odour actually develops. A water-resistant cover just delays it. If your dogs come in wet regularly, this distinction is the whole ballgame.
