Orthopedic vs Standard Fill: What Actually Differs

Orthopedic is a structure, not a thickness

Orthopedic has become a marketing word attached to beds that are simply thicker. The real difference is structural, and you can feel it in about three seconds.

What loose fill does under a dog

Loose polyester fill moves. A dog lies down, the fill migrates out from under the pressure points, and within months there is a dog-shaped hollow with almost nothing left under the hips and shoulders. Adding more fill delays this; it does not prevent it.

What a solid core does

A solid foam core cannot migrate because it is one piece. Pressure compresses it and it returns. That is the entire mechanism, and it is why a genuine orthopedic bed still supports a large dog after a year of nightly use.

How to tell them apart

Press down hard in the middle with your palm. A solid core resists evenly and springs back. Loose fill squashes to nothing and the filling visibly bunches around your hand. It takes seconds and it is worth doing on any sample.

When standard fill is genuinely fine

Small dogs, light dogs and lounge beds that are not slept on every night. There is no need to over-specify a donut cuddler for a six-kilo dog. Minimum order is 12 beds, production runs 2 weeks, and the mockup is free within 24 hours.
